Tammy Yang: Moving Mountains

Tammy Yang is a leader that will move mountains for her customers and her teams. Tammy brings her leadership lessons from a variety of backgrounds into the show. Not only did she serve in the United States Military and graduated from the naval academy, but she went on to lead in the contractor space. Her time spent blazing trails in male dominated fields proves that you can do anything you put your mind to. She takes the combination of lessons learned throughout her career into her new role as SVP of delivery for Compass Datacenters and shares that with our Tech Divas on this episode. Tammy serves as Compass Datacenters’ SVP of Delivery and brings 20 years of experience in the construction industry to the role. In this position, she is responsible for the global Compass Construction Program and leads the Delivery organization in the US and Canada. Prior to joining Compass, Tammy served as VP of Organizational Development for Balfour Beatty. In this role, she was responsible for Balfour Beatty’s organizational transformation and evolution of the company’s operational policies and procedures. She also created and led their national Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition, Onboarding, and DE&I programs.

In addition, she served in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Her wisdom across many male dominated field can help all women in tech to level up. She has a servant leader mind shift and has worked in many diverse areas of an organization.

We talk about being true to yourself and how it just takes one person to believe in you and magical things can happen. She shares a personal story from a 6 month deployment where one of her leaders took a chance on here dispute the culture being used to doing things one way.

An important point of the discussion was about how helping others is a great way to accelerate your own growth. That is why there is so much power in women helping women, which is a win win for everyone! Move from “I wish” to “I deserve” and find a place you enjoy working at that which also appreciates you.

The pandemic has changed so much, so learn about what keeps her busy in addition to the explosion of demand for technology and data centers. Now is a great time to really look at what you are attracted to at work and connect to those things. Together we can all make the world a better place. Tammy definitely left us better after sharing her stories of success on this episode.
